Albert Joseph's instrumental album, Afterourz,
will take you on a journey through a sonic dreamworld
that connects the urban and the pristine aspects of
human life in this day and age. With sounds ranging
from grinding electronic basslines and rhythms, to
tranquil organic ambiances, this album fuses stirring
tonal elements of many exotic and surreal origins.
With this album, Albert takes you on a nonstop voyage through 13 continuously mixed tracks brilliantly forged together with orchestrated interludes, ecstatic climaxes and impeccable phrasing. Afterourz moves bodies, with knockin' rhythms for the feet, bangin' basslines for the hips, rollin' per-
cussion for the shoulders, sizzling melodic synthlines for the hands, and textured atmospheres for the mind.
The opening track, “4mlis”, brings the album to life with solid drum grooves and haunting pipe organ timbres before exploding into the driving bass pulses and polyrhythmic bell patterns of "Budapyrlz". "Th'wob'lr" proves to be the dance floor motivator, with its massive lows, crunchy slaps and morphing sample elements. "Pakalz Poizyn" dives deep into the underworld with subharmonic bass waves and aquatic textures until surfacing into the playful cadences of "Hum'n'blurrd".
After a short interlude, "In'th'guttrz" reveals its reverb drenched bass tones and two-step warehouse breaks. "Liqwet Rollaz" combines rolling lows, and menacing sawtooth patches with DJ S.E.A.'s bulletproof vinyl manipulation. Co-produced with Jessikah Thompson, "Poganyp" features dramatic piano highs, classic rhythm samples and spellbinding sound reversals. The timestreched beats of "Knightshyft" create a strong foundation for its orchestral stabs and sliced synthesizer tones.
The cinematic intro of "Waycupkahl" takes the listener into the abyss, before surfacing at ghetto-funk paradise performed live by Albert Joseph and Bassobese. "Beat'n'sealz", another live track by the two producers, takes the vibe to the lighter side of life with its relaxing beach sounds. "Chaynsawz" must be heard to be truly appreciated and "Apilglayz" brings it home with lush string phrases and LO-FI drum loops until fading away into audible layers of sunset.
If you love hip-hop, jungle, breakbeats or dubstep, this album will move you. With Afterourz, Albert Joseph creates an alluring sonic collage to please the most particular listener’s ears.
